Below is basic park information on several of our community parks.
There is no shortage of parks in Genesee, Livingston, Oakland, and Shiawassee Counties.
Fenton
- Dauner-Martin Nature Sanctuary (174 acres): Michigan Nature Association with entrances on Dauner Road and North LeRoy Street (Fenton Road).
- Silver Lake Park (37 acres): located on Silver Lake. Enter at 16100 Jennings Road, off Owen Road. Beach open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sandy beach with a lifeguard on duty. Expansive, grassy area for sunbathers. Bathhouse, playground equipment, ball fields, horseshoe pits, volleyball equipment, picnic tables, grills, pavilions, and a concession stand. A woods with a marked nature trail is a specialty. Park is open year-round. Call (810) 629-2261.
- Bush Park (5½ acres): located on the Shiawassee River with an entrance at the east end of Jefferson Street, behind St. John Catholic School, and on North LeRoy Street. Deeded to the city by Harry C. and Doris E. Bush on Dec. 18, 1954. Ballfield area, pavilion, playground equipment, and volleyball courts.
- Community Center, Rackham Park (3 acres): located on the Shiawassee River behind the Fenton Community Center on South LeRoy Street. The center was designed by famed architect Eliel Saarinen and his son, Eero. Tennis courts and a large, grassy area for games or picnicking are available. The Fenton Community Center was built in 1937. Construction is nearly complete on the center’s expansion.
- Conklin Park (1 acre): located at 1040 Silver Lake Road. Picnic tables and some playground equipment. It was named after former Fenton Police Chief Charlie Conklin for clearing the land for park use.
- Franklin Adams Park (1 acre): located at the intersection of South Long Lake Road and Appletree Lane. It is named after the late, longtime Fenton city councilman and civic leader. A basketball hoop and half-court pad, bike rack, swing set, and picnic area are available.
- Freedom Park (.35 acres): the triangular park, is bordered by West Shiawassee Avenue, and West Elizabeth and Park streets. It was named Freedom Park in 1972. Picnic tables and monuments encompass the area. For many years, a wooden bandstand stood in the park. The Fenton City Band performed each Wednesday evening. Originally, it was the town square. The rest of the square is located on the north side of Shiawassee Avenue and is maintained by homeowners in that area. Welcome signs were added in 2011.
- Millpond Park (about 4 acres): located on the Fenton Millpond near Fenton City Hall. The focal point is the Fenton Gazebo, a popular place for people of all ages. It is used for weddings and groups and is the site of the Fenton Parks & Recreation Board’s annual “Concert in the Park” series held each summer. Playground equipment is available across the river, accessible by a footbridge. Picnic tables available in certain areas, including along the millpond behind Fenton Fire Hall. Benches are available along the Shiawassee Riverwalk.
- Oak Park (1 acre): located at 714 Oak Park Drive at the corner of North Road. Home for little league baseball in the ’60s and ’70s.
- O’Donnell Park (2 acres): located on the Fenton Millpond at the corner of East Ellen Street and East Street near the East Street Bridge. Named for Mark O’Donnell, who served on the Fenton Parks & Recreation Board from June 1987 to December 1989.
- Shiawassee Riverwalk begins at Strom Park on South East Street in Fenton and continues through the back of the Fenton Community Center.
- Strom Park (.7 acres): located at 299 South East Street, near the East Street Bridge. Boat access to the Fenton Millpond is available. The park area was sold to the city on Feb. 16, 1967, by Louis Parr Rector and Mary Strom.
- Walking Tour of Historic Fenton: Brochures available at Fenton City Hall, A.J. Phillips Museum, Dibbleville shops, and The Fenton Hotel. You can also get more info about Fenton and its parks at FentonBeCloser.com
Linden
- Linden Park: located at 15349 S. Linden Road, Fenton Township, just outside of the City of Linden. The 135- acre park is operated by Genesee County Parks & Recreation. It is open from 8 a.m. until sunset, daily, on a year-round basis. Ball diamonds, tennis courts, playground equipment, pavilions (available for rental), and picnic area abound.
- Clover Beach on Byram Lake. Open from noon until 7 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day. No lifeguard. The park is the site of many Boy and Girl Scout activities and campouts. During winter, the park is a favorite spot for sledding and tobogganing on an intermediate hill on the west side of the park. A snowmobiling area is also available. Call 1-800-648-PARK. - Fenton Township Park & Beach: open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Memorial Day to Labor Day. The sandy beach on Lake Fenton is located directly behind the Fenton Township Civic Community Center on Mantawauka Drive. There are picnic tables, benches, a playground, and a winding boardwalk with a barrier-free ramp.
Holly
- Groveland Oaks County Park: located at 14555 Dixie Highway at Grange Hall Road, Holly. The camping resort offers countryside settings, modern sites with cement pads, water and electricity, shower sites, and primitive and group sites. Lifeguards man the sandy beach. There is boat rental, fishing, swimming, and a water slide. Pavilion-style picnic shelters can be rented. Organized day recreation programs include crafts, dance parties, and sports events. Roller skating and rollerblading, musical revues, and puppet shows are entertainment options. Summer facilities and the concession stand are open from May 23 through Labor Day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call (248) 634-9811.
- Holly Township Beach: located on Holly Bush Drive in Holly Township. Open during school summer break from noon until 8 p.m. daily. Playground, swimming area, picnic area, grills, volleyball, and shuffleboard courts. Swimming lessons available in June and July. Lifeguard on duty. Nice beach and swimming. Fees to the park vary. - Sorensen Park: located on East Holly Road in Holly Township. Ballfields, hiking trails, picnic area, small playground area, and a volleyball court. Open year-round 10 a.m. to dusk.
- Seven Lakes State Park: The Seven lakes State Park located in Holly Michigan, is a wonderful public recreation area covering 1,434 acres of land and is located one mile northwest of Holly in Holly Township, Oakland County, Michigan. The Park is home to 230 Acres of water found spread amongst six named lakes that include Big Seven Lake, Little Seven Lake, and Dickinson Lake. The Park offers a wide array of activities for all outdoor enthusiasts such as fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, black crappie, and channel catfish. Recreational facilities in the park include campsites, swimming beaches, picnic areas, boat launches, trails for hiking and mountain biking, and hunting areas.
Village of Holly
- Crapo Park: Martha and John streets, east of Battle Alley.
- Cyclone Park: Baird and Grant streets.
- Ganshaw Park: North Saginaw Street at Seminole.
- Lakeside Park: Park Avenue near Thomas Road.
- Waterworks Park: Broad Street south of Hadley Street.
Davison
- Richfield County Park: is open 8:00 am – Sunset daily. It is a total of 345 acres with baseball diamonds, a bicycle track, canoe launching site, tennis courts, and cross-country ski trails. For dates and times facilities will be open for these activities, please call 810-736-7100. Pavilions are available for rental. For more rental information please click here. There are also picnic areas and a playground. There is also a snowmobile area that is open 24 hours a day when the ground is frozen with more than 3 inches of snow.
Park Information Pavilion Rentals
Genesee County Parks has a pavilion that will fit your entertainment needs and budget. Each park pavilion comes complete with picnic tables, grills, and port-a-johns located near the pavilion of your choice. If you need a pavilion with an electrical hookup, Linden County Park pavilion #1 is for you!
Do you need to set up in advance for your party? Don’t worry. When you rent a Genesee County Parks pavilion, your rental is for the entire day. If you have a small gathering and a limited budget, you may want to consider renting just a row in a larger pavilion.
