Clarkston, MI was settled and founded in 1830 as a homestead, and it was not long before more settlers from New York and New Jersey arrived as a result of the railroads. By 1877, the Clarkston area grew to include nearly 400 residents as well as thriving farms and businesses. The village was home to several stores, including furniture, clothing, and jewelry shops, as well as hotels, wagon makers, and harness makers. In 1884, Clarkston was incorporated as a village and before transformed into a city in the early 90s.
Since the incorporation of Clarkston, MI into a city in 1992, the City has grown demographically and structurally. According to the 2010 Census, there were 882 people, 402 households, and 248 families residing in the city.  The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.80.
